ZeroRetake
Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026
This policy explains how ZeroRetake (“we,” “us”) handles information on the ZeroRetake website at zeroretake.com and in the ZeroRetake app. The website and the app share one account system, so most of this policy applies to both.
Short version. You can use the free practice samples without an account. If you sign in, we keep your email address, the exams you have unlocked or subscribed to, and your online practice history, so your access and progress work on the website and in the app. App Store purchases are paid to Apple; we never see your card details. We do not sell your personal information. You can delete your account in the app or by emailing us.
Your ZeroRetake account
An account is optional. You sign in with your email address: we email you a one-time sign-in link, and there is no password. The same account works on zeroretake.com and in the app. You need an account to buy All-Access in the app and to use All-Access on the website.
What we collect and why
- Email address. To send you sign-in links, to recognize you when you sign in, and to tie your book unlocks, purchases and practice history to you. We also keep short-lived records of the sign-in links we send (when each was created, when it expires and whether it was used) so that each link works only once.
- Book unlocks. When you unlock a book’s online practice, we record which exam you unlocked, the code or order details used to prove ownership, and when. Proving ownership of a book can use a challenge based on the book’s own answer key; those answers are checked on our server and are not used to build any profile of you.
- All-Access purchases. When you buy All-Access in the app, Apple sends us a signed record of the transaction. We store the product you bought, Apple’s transaction identifier, whether it was a real or test (sandbox) purchase, the purchase date, the date your access ends, whether it is set to renew, and whether it was refunded. We also store a random account identifier that the app attaches to each purchase, so a purchase can only be claimed by the account that made it. Apple keeps sending us notices about renewals, expiries and refunds, and we record those so your access stays correct. We do not receive your name, payment card or billing address from Apple.
- Online practice history. When you practice the full question bank (through a book unlock or All-Access) on the website or in the app, the questions are served by our server one at a time. We record, under your email, which questions were served, whether each answer was correct, your running totals and the time of each step. We use this to continue your practice, to enforce fair-use limits on how many questions can be served per hour and per day, and to record when a purchase was first used.
- Before/after check results. If you take the optional before/after check, we store your answers, how long each one took, and your scores, so we can show you your progress, email you when your after-check opens, and measure (in aggregate, without your name or email) how much our practice helps.
- Emails you give us for free material. If you ask for free sample questions or a readiness report by email, we keep your email address and the exam you asked about so we can send it and follow up.
- Feedback and messages. If you send feedback or email us, we keep what you send so we can read it and reply.
- Website chat. The chat assistant on the website keeps the conversation in your browser. To answer, it sends your messages to an AI model provider (see Service providers below). Please do not type personal information into the chat.
- Basic operational logs. Our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP address and request time) to keep the service secure and running. We use these only to operate and protect the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
The ZeroRetake app
Without signing in
You can use the app’s free sample practice tests without an account. The app downloads the list of exams and their free samples from zeroretake.com; these requests do not include your name or email. Your sample scores and your language choice are saved only on your device. Deleting the app, or clearing its data in your device settings, removes them.
When you sign in
The app keeps your sign-in session in your device’s secure storage and sends it to zeroretake.com to show what your account can open, to verify your purchases, and to serve full-bank practice. What the server stores is described in “What we collect and why” above.
Purchases
All-Access is sold in the app through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple handles payment under its own privacy policy. We receive only the transaction record described above.
What the app does not do
- No analytics, telemetry or usage tracking SDKs.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
The website: cookies, analytics and links
- Sign-in cookie. When you sign in on the website we set one cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It is required for sign-in to work. Signing out removes it.
- Browser storage. Some features save data in your own browser, such as your study progress on certain pages and the chat conversation. It stays on your device unless a feature says otherwise.
- Analytics, when enabled. The website can use PostHog (product analytics, including page views), Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to understand how visitors use the site and how our advertising performs. Each runs only when we have switched it on. When they run, these services may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and receive information such as the pages you visit, your IP address and your browser type.
- Fonts. The website loads its typeface from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google when a page loads.
- Amazon links. Our books are sold on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Links to Amazon carry our affiliate tag, and Amazon may set its own cookies when you follow one. What happens on Amazon is covered by Amazon’s privacy policy.
Service providers
We use these companies to run ZeroRetake. They process data on our behalf to provide their service:
- Fly.io: hosts the website and our servers.
- Turso: our database, which stores account, unlock, purchase and practice records.
- Resend: sends our emails, such as sign-in links and sample questions.
- Apple: sells and bills All-Access in the app and sends us purchase records.
- AI model providers (Groq, Google and Cerebras): answer messages typed into the website chat.
- PostHog, Google Analytics and Meta: website analytics and advertising measurement, only when enabled.
How long we keep data
- Account, unlock, practice and before/after records: until you delete your account or ask us to delete them.
- Purchase records: when you delete your account we remove your email from them, but we keep the anonymous transaction record (Apple’s transaction identifier, product, dates and status) for accounting and so that Apple’s renewal and refund notices can still be processed.
- Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and work only once. Their records are removed when you delete your account.
- Signed-in sessions: deleting your account signs you out everywhere at once. To do that we keep, for 30 days (the longest a session lasts), a record of when the account was deleted, stored under a one-way coded form of your email address, not the address itself. It is then removed.
- Server logs: kept briefly by our hosting provider.
Deleting your account
- In the app: sign in, open Account, and tap Delete account. This deletes your book unlocks, your online practice history, your before/after check results, your sign-in records, feedback sent under your email, your place on the free sample email list and any book-scan rewards record, and removes your email from any purchase record.
- By email: write to privacy@zeroretake.com from the address on your account, and we will delete the same data.
- Your subscription is separate. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in your Apple Account settings (Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions) so you are not charged again.
Children’s privacy
ZeroRetake offers practice for professional certification exams and for US state tests taken by students in grades K to 12. The website, the app and ZeroRetake accounts are intended for adults: certification candidates, and parents, guardians and teachers who choose material for a student. Children under 13 should not create an account or give us their email address, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, email privacy@zeroretake.com with the email address used, and we will delete the account and its data.
Your choices and rights
- You can use the free samples without an account.
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing the address below.
- You can block or clear cookies and browser storage in your browser settings. Sign-in on the website needs its cookie.
- Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law. Contact us and we will respond as that law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
